Please tell us how it works out with the new job!

I completely understand your frustration with all-things-Italian. But I repeat to myself "it's temporary, and it's for school, and NY will always be there when you're done" so I feel better about it and then can go out and enjoy myself. :)

I never thought I would be wishing for so many wolves mouths, but that's Italy for you! However superstition is a funny thing: I wished an Inter Milan supporter "good luck" and he reeled back in horror telling me that good look means bad luck. Inter Milan won the Champions league shortly afterwards. The same guy wished me "in bocca lupo" and England crashed out of the World Cup. Go figure!

Working from home means that I can be based in Milan when not travelling, so perhaps the combinations will work out well :)

I think it's telling that, in a conversation with some of my 11 year old Italian students one day, they asked how I went shopping. I told them that I used a mixture of sign language and bad Italian and they all gasped in horror, telling me (in not quite this English form, but the same meaning), "You must be careful! Italians are cunning and will swindle you if at all possible!"

Really sorry to hear that you've had a rough time of it over the past few months, but also very glad to hear that you're coming out the other side. When you say based at home for this new company, does home mean the UK or Italy? Either way, lots of travelling sounds exciting. In bocca al lupo :D

Yeah, I find that most Italians feel much worse and they all want to learn English so that they can get a better job with a US/UK company. I suppose it was still a valid experience working for an Italian company - I now know how bad things are for them from first hand experience!
